How Does Laser Eye Surgery Work Knowledge Base
Does the laser eye surgery work? I'm tired of taking my contacts out at night and putting them back in the morning. My glasses are not an option anymore. How is your vision after the procedure?
Does laser eye surgery work? i read on it at bbc at this link http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/medical_notes/4649079.stm about laser eye surgery , i want to know how safe it is,if it works well and lasts along time. Also if u could explain the steps , that would be good
Laser eye surgery. Have you had it? How much did it cost? Does it work? Hey. 5 years ago, i noticed i was having trouble reading the board in the classroom. Over the last few years, my eyes have got worse and worse, and while my glasses are fantastic, they were supposed to be temp and i now need to wear them all the time. Having them on and off is causing headaches, especially since i work at a comp desk, and i need to lean in really close to be able to even see the comp screen! For those that have had laser surgery (i have mild short sight, meaning reading is NO problem but street signs are near impossible) how much did it cost, is there only one session, how is your eye sight now...? ANY info, this will be a huge thing for me as i'll need to save for it and it better be worth it! :o)
Laser Eye Surgery cost? Does it work? Have any of you had laser eye surgery before? Did it actually help? I have troubles seeing things from a distance and have been wearing glasses for driving for years. I am getting a bit sick of it. How much did it cost when you got laser surgery? Im from canada so prices probably differ from any US people, but i am still curious. Thanks
ultralase laser eye surgery at 18 years old? Hi, My eyesight is -1.25 in both eyes (I have trouble reading things in the distance) How does laser eye surgery work? does it burn a layer off the eye? and if so, what makes this layer form? I don't really know alot about eyes or laser eye surgery but if anyone has had laser eye surgery, how benifical was it and what do they do? ie how does the surgery work? And after the surgery, will the eyes get worse again. If anyone has any knowlege on laser eye surgery please let me know, thanks x
Laser Eye Surgery Help? How much does laser eye surgery cost? whats the minimum age? and how does laser eye surgery works. i would look online but i rather hear from people who actually got it done.
Laser eye surgery and 'jittery' eyes while focusing? I do not know how the surgery works, and one of my concerns about getting laser eye surgery is a weird thing I get when I'm trying to concentrate my vision at a single point. I assume the surgeon requires you to focus on a specific point so he can do his work, but sometimes my eyes will jump away for a split second and lose their position... do you know what I mean? I get it so often, sometimes, that I doubt I could endure the whole procedure without it happening at least once. My eyes simply won't stay looking at 1 point for extended periods of time. This sucks, because I'm an artist, and it causes me to mess up my work sometimes. :P
What are the risks of laser eye surgery? I had every intention of having laser correction surgery to allow me to join the military but as ive got older and thought about it, I've got pretty worried about the whole thing. As far as im aware it works by placing a permanent lens over your eye, and i never wear contacts for the fear of them getting knocked when im doing jujitsu or whatever and causing serious damage so i dont see myself being overly happy with a permanent one. Basically how dangerous is the surgery?
How old do I have to be for laser eye surgery in the UK? I'm 16 and have really bad eyesight and have to wear glasses all the time. My dad also has really bad eyesight, but I don't know which of us has worse, but I do know that my eyesight is worse than my mum's already. Also, has anyone had it done? Does it work and how well?

Laser Eye Surgery ... Some Advice/Questions? A couple months ago I was laid off from work and unfortunately had to put this idea aside. But now I have a steady job again and this idea has popped up yet again and I hope to have a decision for the upcoming year. I first had to get glasses over 10 years ago and started using contacts about 5 years ago and prefer them over the glasses. I have noticed, though, over the years my eye sight has definitely been getting worse. I only needed to get a stronger prescription every other year and now it has been increased to every 6-8 months. It's getting to be such a hassle for me that I did the math and it costs me over $500 every year to get new contacts/glasses, etc. I mentioned to my eye doctor about laser eye surgery and he said it would work for my condition. I've done research but I want to hear the opinions of any of you and how you liked/did not like the procedure. Did it work for you? How often did you have to go? Roughly how much did it cost? Does health care help in the cost? Thanks so much ... and anything else you want to add/mention would be greatly appreciated
About Laser Eye Surgery I have a few questions on Laser Eye Surgery... Is it safe? How does it work exactly? How much does it cost? How old do you have to be to get it? Worth it? Thanks!
Laser eye surgery questions? I have a few questions on laser eye surgery. I am considering getting rid of my glasses, but I do not want to have contact lenses. -How does it work, and does it work for everybody? -What are the risks, if any? -What is the cost, and is some of the cost covered by most health insurance plans? -Do you get perfect 20/20 vision, or just better vision? Thanks for your answers.
Should I avoid heavy lifting after PRK laser eye surgery? I'm mainly referring to lifting I need to do at work (moving boxes of British product around, stocking shelves, lifting fruit baskets, etc). Also, I'm wondering how long until I can start doing push-ups again? I had the surgery done 8 days ago and I went back to work today so I started to wonder.
optical - monovision by laser eye surgery? I went for a laser eye surgery consultation yesterday and the consultant recommended I have laser eye surgery on one eye for distance and have surgery on the other eye for reading and close up work. Has anyone any experience of having this done please and how did it work out for them?
Laser Eye Surgery?? Info please? We've all seen laser eye surgery adverts where (probably paid actors) are saying how well it works etc. I have to wear contacts/glasses all the time, and without them can barely see at all. I was considering getting laser eye surgery, but would like more information about it. What does that procedure involve, roughly how much will it cost, does it work? Thanks in advance guys x
Anyone who has had Laser Eye Surgery in UK? How much did it cost? Where did you get it done? How long before you were able to go back to work? Is it worth it and does it last? How did you pay i.e monthly, all at once?
Laser hair removal, does it work? Hello All I want to get laser/Light permanent hair removal treatment, but I really don't know which clinic or whats best. I have done loads of research i know of many different treatments and clinics and I believe myself to be a good candidate. However, How can a non surgical procedure cost so much flippin money and which is not quaranteed!! I could have laser eye surgery get brilliant vision for half the price of a full course of laser treatments which an infant could admininister!! This weekend i went to the Harvey Medical Clinic and they asked do you have a girlfriend, does this effect your confidence, are you in the right frame of mind (obviously playing on my insecurity) They then tell me i'm ideal and that we would expect 70+ percent reduction. Can we book you in!?? You pay 550 now and then 1000 on first appointment for 6 sessions. I then ask if i pay this amount what can you commit to, if i'm ideal then will i see 70 percent less hair, she replies "a reduction the hair will be finer, but you could be one of the few that losers all hair" NOW CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG but am i asking for laser hair thinning?? So is there anyone in this community who has had laser removal and they can confirm it works. Preferably Male and has a hairy back :) Many thanks Rant over
PRK Laser eye Surgery experiences? I've been told by the doctor I can't get Lasik, but PRK is fine. What is your experience? How safe is it? I don't want to drop all this money and end up with more problems. Also, how many follow-up appointments are usually needed and how much time off from work? I want to get the surgery done quietly without telling everyone at work about it.
Laser eye surgery in the US Military (non-aviation)? A Question for anyone who has had or knows someone who has had it done. In the average world you simply go get it done, take of a few days from work, and it's that simple. So how does it work in the military?
Laser Eye Surgery. How long's it been around? Pain? ££? How much £££ and how much pain?!? My fiance wants to buy me the surgery for my birthday but i'm really scared. but also really blind. at the moment i get my glasses prescription changed every year, as opposed to every three. thats how quickly its deteriorating! What worries me most is if it hasnt been around that long how do we know whether it will have adverse affects in 15,20,30 years? What is the likeliness of it not working at all? Would they re-do it for free? HELP! Any answers would be appreciated! Thankyou! Nichole

What other options are there besides toric lenses or eye laser surgery? I have been fitted with toric contact lenses from CIBA Vision, because I have astigmatism. However, the lenses are not at all comfortable. One is absolutely irritating. It seems I constantly have a double vision, like the lens is not fitting well. Also, my eyes are always dry, the lenses feel like they are shifting on my eyes. I was fitted with a lot of brands, including Acuevue. And now CIBA Vision. None seem to work. It looks like laser would be the only option left, because wearing glasses with a -5.50 and -7.00 strength is also not comfortable. Anybody have similar experiences and how did you cope/solve it?
I'm thinking about having laser eye surgery done...any advice? I had an initial consult done, and they told me I can restore my vision to 20/20 i'm a little scared..wondering if anyone has some first hand experience, becase I don't know anyone who has had it done..does it work? How long did it take for you to see results..is it really instant?...thanks for any advice.
Do you think I was a bit off colour with my joke in the workplace after my laser eye surgery? A couple of months back I had my eyes lasered so that I can see better. Anyways when I came back into work, everyone wanted to know how they were, what it was like to be able to see normally without contacts lenses etc etc. Anyway while everyone was gathered around, one guy asked 'What differences do you notice now?' And I said, "Well you see John over there" as I point to John, a strapping lad who happens to be .... how can I say this ...... a man of colour. The guy nods and I said "Well before the eye surgery, I had absolutely no idea he was black" Now some of the people laughed at this, but others took a sharp intake of breath. Was I right to joke like or is it racist?
laser eye surgery? has anyone got any info on it? have you/someone you know had a procedure -how did it go? does it really work that well? any horror stories? thanks in advance everyone
How much does corrective laser eye surgery cost? I'm seeking to get that since I wear glasses. I hate glasses so I use to wear contacts for about a year or so but then they got lost or dried up. I don't quite remember so now I'm seeking to get corrective laser eye surgery. I'm gonna see if I can get it with my insurance but I'd also like to know how much it costs. Does anyone know ? Of an estimate or exact cost ? Thanks !
How does it feel to get laser eye surgery? When Your in surgery and they cut the layer of your eye does it hurt and do you feel anything. Does it burn. I want to do laser eye surgery and I wanna know what I am in for. Tell me all the details.
Does laser eye surgery disqualify you from being a military pilot? I have done some reading about some pilot programs in a few of the military branches. I came across something interesting that stated: If you have had laser eye surgery in the past, you are disqualified from becoming a pilot. Is this true? My next question is, if it is in fact true, why would that disqualify you? Laser eye surgery can correct your vision back to 20/20 and that's what pilots are suppose to have correct? So wheres the logic in that?
Recently had laser eye surgery and have just returned to work? My first day back at work after having laser eye surgery (5 days ago) and have had a lot of head aches. Anyone else experienced this? any suggestions? Is this normal? The surgery wasn't painfull, but it was uncomfortable. It's not an enjoyable experience, but it was over quite quickly. On the day, plan to get home as quickly as possible, I had to get around london tube station and then home, which wasn't the best!
Does Laser Eye Surgery work for you? Any complications? I have been hearing that many people complain about "dryness" in their eyes...is this true? What is the "maximum" of prescription to get one? Let's say my prescription is -2.50, and I can afford enough to get one, and will it guarantee me 20/20? Thanks!
Does anyone what the minimum age is for laser eye surgery? Im 17, gonna turn 18 in a few months. I live in belgium at the moment and was wondering if anyone knew if i could get laser eye surgery. I've been wearin glasses ffor a few years, and they have only slightly changed the intensity. I really dont like wearin them so if you have any other options besides contacts that would be good.
I have terrible eyesight, I heard about laser eye surgery or something, does that work? My eyesight is terrible, I have to wear my glasses, but I hate them, I look better without them. Is there any way to get my eyesight better? The only problem is that im on the computer a lot working art and stuff. I heard about laser eye surgery or something, is it effective? Is it costly? Does it always work? Just give me all the info about it that you got please, I would love to not have to wear my glasses. Oh also, I can't wear contacts, im afraid to touch my own eye (or anyone else's), so that's a for sure no.
Does laser eye surgery make your eyes perfect? I want to be a helicopter pilot but I have glasses and need laser eye surgery. Would laser eye surgery make my eyes perfect like 20/20 vision. or better than 20/50 vision? Also I heard if you get surgery you can be a helicopter pilot in the army. is this true?
How much does Laser Eye Surgery cost? Does the UK Army PARA regiment accept people who have had Laser Eye Surgery? I am mildly-moderately shortsighted (-2.50). I aim to have Laser Eye Surgery to fix this next year, but want to know if the UK Army Parachute regiment accepts those who have had this treatment, as some armies (e.g. the Irish) do not. There are a couple of similar questions up here but none give decent answers. Thanks!
How much does laser eye surgery cost and how risky is it? I've been thinking about getting my vision corrected with laser. Does anyone know about how much it would cost and how risky it would be? (I currently have no medical conditions with my eyes except that I can't see anything beyond a foot of me)
How does one perform laser eye surgery? I've found all the tools necessary around the house and eager to try it out. I'm unsure if the patient has to be sedated, as I have seen the surgery performed on television and they were wide awake. To get the eye prepared for surgery I will first tap on the cornea with a small piece of a gumdrop (peppermint) attached to a nail file. After this though, I am pretty much lost and would love some help!
Does Laser eye surgery have side effect if ? I had done Corneal topography and found that OD :Normal corneal surface but OS : irregular Corneal surface with steep , anyway do you know regardless of the corneal topography ,how can i know tat laser surgery is good ad safe for me or not ?

I remember my grandpa got it YEARS ago when it just came out and it only lasted him about 3 years i think. Well i know it has gotten much better but how long does it typically last now a days?

Does laser eye surgery cause some side effects? Now days laser eye surgery is available for treatment of myopia. But most of the people don't opt for this. what is the reason behind this. Is is not safe. Does this cause some side effects.
Can laser eye surgery correct myopia aka near sightedness? Can laser eye surgery correct myopia aka near sightedness? Does laser eye surgery last forever? What if you have big holes in your retina from myopia? Can laser eye surgery improve my myopia? Can myopic people have this laser surgery? Is there a risk for going blind from laser eye surgery? If you do go blind for laser eye surgery is it true that it can be corrected?
Laser eye surgery? IT never crossed my mind but now i'm actually thinking about it. Please I need to know if it hurts,is it safe, does it cost a lot, etc. Also I need to know if there is an age requirment...I am 16years old if there is. Ok, I can't post pictuers but I'll give you detail what I look like. I kind of have a round face shape to myself. ((Naturally.)) Pale looking skin. Hazel eyes. Dark brown shoulder length hair. Height:5ft 5inches. Weight: 103lbs. Glasses: Skinny black glasses. I also have long arms. Sorry if any of this is pointless I just need to figure out about the whole Eye surgery thing and how it works.

What risks are involved? * Why are some people colorblind? * How do optical illusions work? How do they “fool” your brain? * How do red-and-blue “3D glasses” work? * How do sounds reach the brain? * Why do some sounds have a low pitch, while others have a high pitch? * Why are animals such as dogs able to hear sounds that humans cannot? * When someone is “hard of hearing,” what are some possible causes? * Why do certain smells instantly evoke specific memories or feelings? * How are the senses of smell and taste related? * If you hold your nose while eating, how are tastes affected? My 6 yr old daughter need eye surgery, i need some answers please? about a year ago my daughters right eye crossed. Like all u saw was the white of her eye. Took her to the dr and he stated that she couldnt see with that eye and her brain was telling her body to shut it down so her stronger eye could work. Well he prescribed her glasses. Her eye straightened for about 4 months and then it started crossing again. He changed her prescription and did the same thing; good for 4 months and crossed again. Well he states that the glass prescription is just fine she can see its just her eye muscles and nerves that are not working anymore, so he is setting her up for surgery. Now finally my question. I know some of ya'll cant answer this but does anyone have an idea as to how the procedure might be done, all laser, cut her eye open, what? Im just scared and nervous and thank you!!!!
How do advertisements with referrals work business-wise? On the radio I heard an advertisement for laser eye surgery and they said "tell them we sent you and get an additional 10% off your final price" or something of that nature. 1. Is there a specific name for this kind of advertisement? (note that this is not a celebrity endorsement or testimonial. it's just like a coupon code) 2. How do the deals on these types of advertisements work? (business-wise for the advertiser and product owner aka the radio station and the surgery facility) 3. How does this type of advertisement compare to other types of advertisements in all aspects of advertising? (effectiveness to draw in advertising the product, cost of advertisement, etc)
What to do after a surgery of Retina Detachment? I'm 19, in college. The thing is class starts on the 22nd and I have the surgery scheduled on the 24th.....would it affect class? Does anyone has any experience of it. Because I mean, I have work and class. I do plan to take 2-3weeks off from work already. But would it affect me if I choose to go to class, or read my textbooks? Sigh, I'm so confused, the retina specialist didn't clarify anything with me and just told me to make an appt for the surgery. He just say my left eye has a small tear. But I'm going to see another specialist to clarify it. How unprofessional. He doesn't tell me anything until I ask him. Does anyone know the success rate of the surgery? He told me it's a laser surgery. Because I know someone that has a similar situation but the surgery was not necessary and she ended up blind.
Laser surgery for face...what is involved? Hi all....i am thinking about getting laser surgery on my face to remove freckles and the dark circles under my eyes...so i was wondering if anyone knows what is involved, does it work, cost and how many times would you need to go???? Whats wrong with my eyes? My mom told me i have had a lazy eye in my left eye because of head trauma from when I was born. I have two eye muscle surgeries for it, that did not work out. I went back to the doctor and she said I have a refractive error. I notice it when i cover my left eye, I can see clearly and sharpout of my right eye. When I cover my right eye, my vision in my left eyes is blurry and it looks like as if my vision in my left eye doesnt focus at all, as if my eye is shaking and will not focus. My lazy eye condition occurs only when my eyes get tired or I get sick. I now have these prescribed glasses. So how long does it take for glasses to correct a refractive error and what is the exact eye condition that I have? And also since the refractive error is causing my lazy eye, technically in my case can my lazy eye be cured with glasses or laser eye surgery?
Are my eyes going to fall out after LASIK (laser) surgery? Well, obviously, they probably won't. LOL I scheduled my Lasik surgery and am looking forward to going glass-less in the near future! I'm excited. However, with all the things that could go wrong, I was hoping to get some feedback from those who have had this procedure done. Did yours work? How long did it take to recover? Did anything go wrong? Any advice or personal experiences would be helpful! Thanks! Rabidmoth--well, it was a good thing your eyes popped out in the operating room so they probably weren't covered with hair and junk.
lines under the eyes? hi I'm only 15 but i have really obvious lines under my eyes which are pretty obvious already but when i smile it looks like my eyes have aged 70 years. Does anyone know how i can get rid of them? Im pretty cynical about creams and stuff. I really want lower eyelid surgery but i think thats out of the question haha! Does laser surgery work for those? Thank you x
How can I prevent my glasses causing a glare in the sun? Playing softball, this seems to be a huge issue. I do not have sunglasses that can fit on my current glasses, and until I order one (that doesn't scratch them), I'm stuck without shades. My visor does not work as much. I canNOT wear contacts, nor can I receive laser eye surgery, so do not suggest those two. I have an eye disease that prevents the contacts from attaching to my eye. But anyway- I am a pitcher, and I pitch to the batter while facing the sun. By the sun causing me not to see the ball if it comes back to me, it could be fatal. In fast-pitch, high-school age sfotball, the batters can easily hit a ball back to the pitcher faster than the pitcher can realize. By the way, with my eye disease, I am legally blind without my glasses so it would be even more dangerous not to wear them.
What are some good exercise/weight loss methods? I have a desire to have a career in either criminal justice or Marine Corps Sniper (although I'd have to have laser eye surgery, which I heard gives eagle-eye vision even better than 20/20, at the moment I wear glasses and contacts, but both couldn't hold up to certain environments, and glasses won't even work with a scope lol; contacts irritate my eyes a lot). But anyway, now that you know what I want to be, I'd like to know of some weight loss methods. My mom has a treadmill I intend to work to death, and I can do anything by myself that doesn't require a machine (push-ups, sit-ups, etc.). I can probably get my brother's weights to benchpress and do arm weights for biceps, triceps, etc. I just want to basically know if there is a specific method I should use to lose some of my fat to get ready for a job that is physically demanding. I am currently 200 pounds, I used to weigh 180 in high school, now I am 20 years old. I am 6 feet tall, and saw that 150-170 was around the estimated range for my height, but muscle weighs more than fat, I want to lose fat and turn it into muscle so it's not really a "lose weight" only issue, because I would probably lose fat and weigh the same because I am pretty big dude, broad shoulders, etc., but it would be muscle instead of fat. Like, how often should I run on the treadmill, and is the treadmill even a good way to exercise healthily to lose weight? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Eye prescriptions, is there a scale? I am trying to work out how bad my eyes really are, because I know that I cannot get contact lenses or laser surgery. Is there a scale with limits for the different parts to your prescription, and what do they mean for me who has the follwing (I know it is really bad): Right: Sph +8.50 Cyl -350 Axis 155 Left: Sph +10.00 Cyl -400 Axis 10 Surprisingly with this bad prescription I can still see without my glasses quite well, I even forget I am not wearing glasses (just can't read too well or see long distances).
how does having laser eye surgery compromise being able to still enjoy scuba diving (i.e. pressure to 250 ft?) From what I understand, laser surgery affects intraocular pressure in the eyeball; when scuba diving, submerging to pressures that exceed one ATM (at the surface) down to 250 ft - the point beyond which nitrogen narcosis is likely to be experienced, hence sport divers do not exceed this depth) what effect does/will having the eye surgery have upon vision, or compromising the eye in any way? Have never heard of any article in this regard, and when I sent ltrs of inquiry both on the internet and to ophthalmologists, never seem to get an answer, even to admit they simply do not know?
What is the cheapest laser eye surgery can cost, including service in other countries? I have astigmatism but I find contacts and glasses a frustrating money sink. My vision is about 20/160, but I never wear corrective lenses. I am looking forward to laser surgery, but as a college student I have less than $2000 to work with. I understand surgery can be up to $5000 in the USA, but I've heard of prices as low as $1400 abroad. Does anyone have any cheap success stories?
Does laser eye surgery work? i read on it at bbc at this link http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/medical_notes/4649079.stm about laser eye surgery , i want to know how safe it is,if it works well and lasts along time. Also if u could explain the steps , that would be good
Can you have laser eye surgery a second time? I had laser eye surgery about 15 years ago and my eyes have been great. But in the last couple of years my left eye is getting weaker and it is progressively getting worse. I am thinking about approaching a laser clinic to have the procedure again. Has anyone out there had laser surgery on their eyes more than once? And is it risky? Cheers Adam
Is laser eye surgery worth the risk if it means I can fly? I want to be a pilot in the air force more than anything. I heard that they allow laser eye surgery in some situations. My vision is 20/60 correctable to 20/10. If I should be so lucky as to get the opportunity..is laser eye surgery worth it? I don't want to ruin my life with a mistake..but I don't want live my life with regret either...
will laser eye surgery work for a lazy eye? I had surgery for a squint as a child and now I'm almost forty it is getting noticeably worse. The more tired I am the worse it gets. I wonder, would laser surgery help? I also have astigmatism in that eye. The other eye is very good. I can't wear glasses because my left eye is near perfect and my right eye is really bad, there has to be a balance in the glasses, apparently. My near vision is excellent, if anything, it is my far vision which is not as good as it was. I was hoping that laser surgery would help me regain good vision in my right eye and I could patch the left eye to help the brain to recognise it - this would also help to build up the muscle which control the eye, does this sound hopeful at all?
Laser Eye Surgery - can I have it again if it didn`t work? Can anyone help pls. I had laser eye surgery about 10 years ago at Optimax in London. Back then there was only the original version called PRK and I had 1 eye done and it was amazing and I have perfect vision still in that eye. However, I had the 2nd eye done 3 months later and it didn`t work - I am still short sighted but it reduced it from -5.5 to -2 Apparently the poor vision is due to the haze not properly clearing? Does anyone know if with all the new technology I could have treatment on this eye to correct the vision despite having already had PRK on it Would be so grateful for any info/advice. Thks
What are the long terms side effects of laser eye surgery? I am interested in having laser eye surgery to correct short sight but I am concerned about the longer term side effects as I get older. I can't find much information about this subject on the web so I would be really interested to find out.
How quick was laser eye surgery recovery? My mother and I had laser surgery to improve our eye sight at the same time. My eyesight dramatically improved by the next day, but 3 weeks later, my mother's eyesight is still blurred. The optician is talking about re-treating. Has anyone had surgery and their eyesight has improved after this length of time?
Can your vision still get worse after laser eye surgery? After you receive laser eye surgery, can your vision still get worse? I've been wearing glasses for years and im only 18, andit seems like i keep having to get stronger prescrption, so i was wondering if it would be sort of A CURE-ALL?
